Buying a home can be an especially emotional process. For many years, it was at the top of my dream list of things to do in life. It was and is an adult decision because it generally requires a commitment, sizable sums of money, and trust in one’s decision-making. Truthfully, saving for this sunny day decision is always in competition with saving for a rainy day.
Like many people, my practice was to save as though I was saving for a rainy day when in fact my goal was to save for a sunny day. The purchase of my first piece of property was fraught with so many questions, legalities, and possible conditions that it made preparing to pull the trigger even harder than saving.
